River

…A river, I had reckoned,
 
 had only two ways to pass –
 
 Follow its course 
 
 and find the ocean
 
 Or dry up from its roots
 
 and be dead.

Now I know –
 
 A river can swell,
 
 breach boundaries
 
 and saturate lives
 
 to the point of pain.

A river can behave
 
 like love….
